Cue Peaches and Herb because the Comeau girls are reunited. And it feels so good.
Actually, I’ll make it easy for you:
Last time I wrote on a Friday I had taken a day off leading into one of the Great American Holiday Long Weekends, Memorial Day Weekend. We don’t always get so lucky with long weekends and another Great American Holiday, Independence Day, but coincidentally here I am taking a day off to kick off the 4th of July extra-long weekend and writing to you. Yay.
Because you get Friday and Monday entries almost back to back, and because I have a lot to do today, I’ll keep it brief.
I know not everyone has family. And I know that some people who do have family aren’t quite as excited about theirs as I am by mine. I love my family so much. So when I cancelled my February trip to FL, I did not get my annual week in the sun with my sister and her family. They live in Michigan and in a typical year we see each other at least 3 times. Once in MA, once in MI, and once in FL. So missing the FL trip meant going 13 whole months without seeing any of the McLaughlins in person. When you have teenaged nieces (aged 15 and 17 now), missing over a year of any togetherness means missing a lot, even in a pandemic year.
That changed yesterday. They arrived in the morning so after work I went slightly over the speed limit across town to my mom’s to see them in all their sisterly and niece-ly glory. Big big hugs, big big smiles, a rousing game of Five Crowns, and a big big night out…at the Lynwood Cafe for the best bar pizza out there. First time there since C19 struck. So fun, an all-around treat. And the pizza in Michigan really sucks so it was extra-good for them. Oh and Delphine (she’s the one who is 15) is taller than me now. 🤷♀️
Not sure what the weekend holds because Mother Nature seems to have a beef with someone. We had to cancel the Saturday family “reunion” pool party. Hopefully we can pull something off on Monday. Based on the current forecast, it’s our only hope.
We’ll figure out a way to have fun regardless, so I’m not sweating that. If we’re stuck in we know we can do a puzzle, teach the girls how to play Masterpiece (one of our favorite games as kids…but we never knew anyone else who had heard of it let alone played it…anyone???), or watch the original Parent Trap (starring Hayley Mills and Hayley Mills 😂😂😂). That’s one great thing about my family…we never needed much to be happy, and we still don’t…give us each other and we’re good.
Weather aside, I wish you a very happy Friday and hope you have a holiday weekend full of people who make your heart happy.
God bless America, thanks for being here (I appreciate you so much!), and I’ll “see” you Monday.
Oh, and free Britney.
