This week started strong. Sunday was Mother’s Day and I hosted brunch (which I love, especially hosting one) for my mom, with my sis, b-i-l, nephew/gf, and niece in attendance. We had a lot of fun.
Here’s a peek at what was happening here then—the menu was solid, even the baked goods, which were two new recipes. I’ll report on the food the next time I write on a Wednesday…maybe…if I remember. 🤣🤦♀️
Sunday night I stayed awake-ish, hoping for one of those exciting, once-in-a-lifetime “Northern Lights” moments that people around the world were having and posting about on social in technicolor. At just before 2AM I dragged myself out to the front stoop and saw nothing. Realizing that we’d be told it may not be visible to the naked eye but picked up on camera, I took a few iPhone shots of it. And even though I didn’t really see it, you might argue that I did see it. Right? What else explains that purple splotch on the middle right edge?
Aurora borealis, ✅. 😂
Though the weather has been a bit uncooperative pretty much all year and we’ve yet to have a day that’s hit 80° here in MA, that doesn’t mean we’ve been without some key signs of summer…with this being the biggest one…
…drum roll please…
The cover came off the pool on Tuesday and it looked good…really good, like we could see the drain at the bottom of the deep end good.
The thermometer told a different story, that of 58-degree water (I’ll pass on the cold plunge trend, thanks), but it looks like summer now. And it was a high 70-degree day that day—so it felt like summer too.
I’ve also noticed the changing and the vibrancy of the color of things on my regular walks, particularly in The Esker, where things are painted in much more summer-like hues, almost-perfect mixes of vibrant greens and brilliant blues.
What a day, right?
These summer sights, sounds, and smells have me feeling pretty darn good this morning, despite the allergy situation that accompanies this time of year, and despite the general dreariness of this morning and of yesterday. Yesterday the dreariness was offset by dinner out with some friends at our fave local joint (as we took advantage of our first night with no intense playoff sports watching in over a week. (Offset today? Go Bs—win at home tonight, please.)
Next weekend is Memorial Day (what?), kind of hard to believe because I feel like I just brought the Christmas ornaments up into the attic. But here we are. Since I report back here on Monday, I’m going to give you a break and keep it short today. Let you take some time…slow down and just be…because…damn does it ever go fast.
I appreciate you dropping by and spending this time with me. Enjoy your weekend.
Love you too.
