First things first, last week’s newsletter was a bit sloppy with the typos. I had some formatting issues and sorting those out got me kind of frustrated…I took my eyes off the prize, and well, we all know what happens when that happens. I’m sure there are typos every week (I don’t spend as much time as I should proofreading this (or writing it TBH), but last week’s entry was rough. That’s an explanation not an excuse; I’ll try to do better.
So…Friday…Memorial Day weekend…the official unofficial start to summer! And we are back—after last year’s COVID-forced “vacation from our weekend vacation”—to our traditional time away in New Hampshire.
We came up here yesterday morning and two great things about this getaway are 1) how close it is to home and 2) how easy it is to get here. 94 minutes, Route 2 is pretty on a sunny day with no traffic, and I think we forgot how good jumping in the car for a couple nights away feels. The forecast for the weekend is sketchy, but yesterday was picture-perfect.
So once we got here and unpacked the car we headed off for a round of golf, beautiful course with sweeping views of NH’s famed Mount Monadnock. I don’t really golf and still don’t have much range of motion in my left wrist but I was there for the fun…I managed ok through 11 or 12 holes and after that, well, the beers were cold.
We picked up some pretty amazing (and I’m fussy, so if I say they were amazing that’s saying something) lobster rolls on the way home, chowed down…and then I called it a day and was sound asleep by 8. I have no idea when I last slept for so long and it feels so good to feel so good this morning—this weekend takes stamina, and I’m rested and ready for it.
Because I’m away and because it’s a holiday weekend and because you’ll hear from me on Monday, I’m keeping it relatively short today. Happy Friday, happy long weekend, have lots of fun…and don’t forget to remember what Memorial Day is about.
Thanks for being here—I appreciate you so much.
(And let’s face it, even cool and cloudy it’s still picture perfect. And the only sounds I can hear right now are an assortment of chirping birds. Time for coffee.)
