While I’m not superstitious I’m also not going to press my luck, so I’m going straight to my Friday the 13th tradition of staring it down…CRANK…IT…UP!
I realize Joan Armatrading isn’t particularly popular (probably never was; that’s how some of my musical tastes run) but this has been my go-to Friday the 13th song for a good 35 years (which I know is longer than some of you have been alive…I know…I KNOW…I KNOW!) and she is one of those artists who takes me time traveling…to places light and dark, happy and sad…but all good, because here I am, unapologetically still a big fan. Unapologetically feeling good. Unapologetically feeling very fortunate and grateful. Which reminds me that life is a lot more fun when you live it without apology. Note to self: keep living it without apology.
So in the spirit of no apologies, I’m not gonna apologize for being brief today…I’m just gonna be. Here’s what has me feeling good this morning:
Mother’s Day Brunch on Sunday. Hosting a good brunch always makes me happy. When it involves celebrating mothers (mine and Kerri’s), more the better. I think the most important thing when it comes to compatibility is shared values, and how we were raised has informed ours—all the more reason to raise a glass to them!
I scored a ticket to the Babson College undergraduate commencement ceremony tomorrow morning. It was iffy there for a while but alas here I am feeling very much like Charlie Bucket after finding the golden ticket…albeit looking more like Violet Beauregard. 🤷♀️
The graduating nephew himself…he is a remarkable human. I’m sure COVID impacted his college experience, because it impacted my experience of his college experience. While he went to school local (Babson College in Wellesley, MA) he may as well have lived in a faraway land. I didn’t see much of him, but I do know that he worked really hard, had a great time, took full advantage of the Red Sox last-minute $9 student ticket deals, and made some amazing friends. I don’t know if he knows what comes next for him (I do not), but I do know this—look out world!
The warming weather. It’s hard to believe as I look out on another gray and/or gloomy and/or cold morning, but it’s coming. Tomorrow. In time for graduation. Thanks, Mother Nature. Thanks, Universe.
Boston sports. The Bruins pushed the Hurricanes to a Game 7 after a big win last night and the Celtics are still in it, with a must-win game tonight. The Sox season is early—there’s plenty of baseball ahead of them—but I think their issues have to do with a lot more than whether manager Alex Cora does or doesn’t have a beard.
Since 5 is one of my favorite numbers and I really need a cup of coffee, I’m going to wrap it up here.
Yesterday I noticed Spotify recommended a Happy Mix for me, so I bit and hit play. Overall, I was not disappointed. (Sometimes I think the Spotify algorithm knows me better than I know myself.)
While I hope this message finds you happy, hopefully you’ll find a tune or two to make you even happier. Thanks for spending more of your precious time with me—I appreciate it, more than you realize.
Have a great weekend—I’ll be in touch Monday.
Love you too.
