Two maiku for you, one in honor of the traditional meaning of the day and one to celebrate the contemporary meaning of it. The important thing for me is to remember what today is rooted in and to be grateful for those whose ultimate sacrifice allows us all to be here, wherever we are. (I’m also thankful to all those who serve(d) and sacrifice(d) and survive(d)… even though today technically is only about those whose lost their lives in service of strangers’ freedoms.)
Yes, I am being frivolous and celebratory of summer’s unofficial start (despite temps in the 40s), but don’t for one second think I am unaware of the solemnity and of this day, and the tragedy that affords me this opportunity to be here having fun, …and for which I am infinitely grateful.
Memorial Maiku #1: In Memory
Think. Remember. Thank.
Sacrifices made, lives lost.
Nothing for granted.
Memorial Maiku #2: In Celebration
Friendship. Laughter. Fun.
Pickled liver on the lake.
Savor each second.
The weather this weekend was rough after Thursday. Cold and rainy. We snuck in a short boat ride on the lake on Friday. Caught the Bruins take 1-0 lead in their series with the Islanders. Other than that we had to improvise…we’re here, we’re together, and life is short…so you do what you can…you listen to music and you play games upon games upon games. Balderdash. Scat. The letter game, which I’m sure has a real name but we don’t know it. Made up versions of “Name That Tune.” Whatever. There’s so much fun to be had if you’re willing to have it.
Now we’ll have some coffee, then get packed up and head out…need to get home and caught up.
In summary: a good time was had by all.
Back to work tomorrow. Gotta pay to play.
Hope you had a fantastic weekend. See you next week, and thanks for being here.
