¡Hola!
¡Buenos dias!
¡Bienvenidos!
Hello, good morning, and welcome.
¡Happy Cinco de Mayo!
I feel like I was *just* here.
Because I was.
I hope you all had a great weekend.
I did.
Friday night we went to my sis and bro-in-law’s for dinner and a Kentucky Derby betting strategy sesh. They were going to Mohegan Sun and offered to place some bets for us, so how could we say no? We had so much fun planning which horse(s) we felt good about and which bet(s) we’d place and we all talked a good game. And when the mud was all kicked up the only winner among us was my mom, who wisely chose Sovereign FTW.
(If you’re wondering I placed a Win-Place-Show bet on Luxor Cafe and an Exacta Box bet on Luxor Cafe and Journalism. Small money because a) unemployment and b) not much of a gambler. But it’s more fun when you have a little skin in the game.)
I spent Saturday moving my niece out of her dorm at BU and getting everything unloaded for storage at my mom’s house. It *is* a grind—and as luck would have it 80° and humid—but in a weird way I do enjoy being part of these move in/move out milestone events. One really fun thing involved going into the art building to pick up some of her things (supplies, projects, etc.) and getting to see “the room where it happens” aka the studio.
Once again “we” *had* to borrow the Armada from our other sis which, with 188K miles is running “on a wing and a prayer”—and the workhouse pulled through. It was packed to the gills and you could see only out of the windshield, but in any case the move is in the rearview. Year one at BU, ✅.
The good news is that’s the only move I have to do this Spring because my other college-aged niece is staying put in her apartment through the next school year. Yay.
The “enjoy the fruits of your labor with family and friends” line above really resonated with me, and especially so during our Tres de Mayo lunch break at El Jefe’s Taqueria. 🤣🤣🤣
And this one even more so: “Love each other.”
Because, while love isn’t *all* you need it sure makes anything and everything better. ❤️
Last night we enjoyed more time together as we made one final pilgrimage to Denly’s before my sis and niece leave tomorrow—they aren’t sure when they’ll be back next and there’s no pizza like it in MI so they have to get their fill. And I’ll never say no to good pizza.
Or bad pizza for that matter. 🤣🤣🤣
My nephew and his gf were surprise guests—always great to see them. That youthful energy gets me every time.
That was what I’ve been up to since we were last together on Friday…and here we are on Cinco de Mayo…so let’s get to the point of this and any post that happens to fall on a Monday, my haiku, Maiku:
Cinco de drink-o. ¿Is it tequila o'clock? ¡Salud, amigos!
So what are we having?
I normally would lie low on Monday and especially so when the week ahead is busy, and I do have an action-packed few days on tap…but I think I *have* to have some sort of some Mexican-ish kind of dinner washed down with a tequila something or other today, no?
I’m thinking these chipotle chicken tacos:
They’re worth it for the pickled onions alone. (And if you’re interested in them but don’t have an IP I can send you the slow-cooker version—hit me up.)
That said I can’t for the life of me settle on a drink. Maybe something spicy, like this spicy chocolate margarita (which is more delicious than it might sound):
I guess it’s kind of a hard thing to be planning before even having a morning coffee…and I have the whole day to think on it, which means I’ll probably change my mind 14 or 15 times. 🤣 Plus it’s raining here so right now the thought of leaving the house is very unappealing. And it’s not like I’m in my 20s when Cinco de Mayo was an excuse I didn’t need to party. 🤦🏼♀️
And go Celtics!
Hope you had a great weekend too, and have a good week ahead. Thanks for starting it here with me—I really appreciate you.
¡Salud, amigos!
Yo también te quiero
Love you too.
