Hope everyone had a nice weekend.
No complaints from me since we last hung out here together.
Yesterday was Kerri’s birthday. She could have taken or left it—birthday’s are just not a big deal to her (as mine isn’t to me, so I get it)—but I needed to mark the occasion just the same, well, because her arrival into the world on that particular June 8th turned out to be a critical contributor to my happiness today.
When The Universe has plans, The Universe has plans…
Go figure.
Lifeline. Lifeblood. Love. Call it by whatever name. It is all I need.
So anyway, it really was a very nice few days, despite the weather. Friday’s dodgy forecast turned out to be wrong, so in the afternoon when Kerri asked me to golf 9 holes with her at Weathervane, I immediately said yes. It was the start of her birthday weekend after all (actually, we kicked it off Thursday when I made a pre-birthday cake for dessert when my mom came for dinner). We were paired with two guys about our ages (-ish) and one of them got a hole in one on the second hole. I’m not sure if it was because he was golfing with strangers or what, but the guy barely even smiled. He was a wicked nice guy, but he definitely under-reacted to that milestone event—though we made up for it. 📣🙌🏼🤩🏌️♂️
After we finished our game, at about 8:15, we were hoping for seats at the bar and a pizza. Oh, and a cold beer. It was really muggy so the beer was a must, especially since there was no bev cart on the course. Alas, there were no seats at the bar or available tables anywhere else, so with pizza on the brain we moved along to Alumni, where we dis score seats at the bar and enjoyed fantastic pizza, ice cold beer, Keno, and hockey (notably Brand Marchand’s shorthanded goal) on giant screens. Not the fanciest of birthday dinners, but I did take her out. 😂
Saturday, while Kerri golfed, I watched the French Open Final, and Coco Gauff did not disappoint. Aryna Sabalenka, on the other hand…what a sore loser! She’s misfit a ball and then glare at her box—as if it were her coaching team’s fault. The more Coco beat her, the more she sulked at her people. Very Veruka Salt. And then her post-match speech was offensive—blaming the conditions and giving Coco no props. Not. A. Fan.
Saturday night we had a 60th birthday party which was fun enough when it was raining but then when the rain stopped and the skies cleared it was so much fun. Like Kerri had to drag me out of there. Sunday morning I was my mom’s “handler,” taking her to my cousin’s daughter’s high school graduation brunch. It was a great day, a very nice party, and I caught up with one of my cousins and his wife (they live on the West Coast) who I probably haven’t seen in 10 years, so that was a bonus!
But the centerpiece of the weekend, despite Kerri’s laissez-fair attitude, was her birthday—and as it turns out, because I was at said grad party, Kerri had to be very hands on with things. We had Kerri’s sis and bro-in-law (last-minute, lots of balls in the air) over and when I got home I made Kerri’s cake by request, but she had done everything else. 🤦🏼♀️ Other than me being a total slug, it was a great time. Awesome weather, our first night out back for the season, fire going, tunes cranking, etc. And the Red Sox took two of three from the Yankees, so watching them win was enjoyable.
I love entertaining, and I love being out in our backyard so much.
So.
Much.
Needless to say, it was a real treat and I went to bed very happy last night.
Hope the weekend held some joyful moments for you and that the week ahead is a good one. I appreciate you so pending a bit of time here with me—you know it’s always a bright spot in my week!
Love you too.
